Terminated Tomes: 10 series we won’t be finishing

Welcome to episode 35, Terminated Tomes! How are we at episode 35 already?! Today we’re talking about all the series that we don’t see ourselves finishing. You know the ones, where you’ve read two of them and then the third one is so far down your TBR list and you know you’re never going to get round to reading it … but you also have books four and five sitting on your shelf too? Those ones. We’re never going to get around to them. Stay tuned to find out which ones we chose!

Exciting News

No Currently Reading this week, but there are two things which have been announced recently that we’re excited about.
  1. The BBC is making Cassandra Clare’s The Infernal Devices series into a TV series. Anjali is excited but also terrified.
  2. We get a little bit excited about Midnight Sun, which is the new Twilight book which is coming out soon (we say June in the podcast, but it’s actually August upon further investigation).

Main feature

(08:16) We finally get into the episode, Terminated Tomes, and Sophie kicks us off with the first series that she won’t be finishing. The first series she’s chosen is Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs, and while she did enjoy it, there are too many books now and she’s unlikely to get back to it.

(13:05) Anjali’s first series that she won’t be finishing is one that she’s talked about before, and how disappointed she was in it. That is Labyrinth by Kate Moss.

(15:40) We’re bringing dystopian YA back with Sophie’s next choice.

(18:08) The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert is Anjali’s next choice. The concept was really cool, but it fell short for her. Tune in to find out why!

(20:30) Sophie is worried that Anjali will get mad at her for her next choice, but Anjali hasn’t finished it either. All was well. We have a big discussion about spine colours in this section too.

(25:40) Anjali loves the cover of her next choice and while, again, the concept was really cool, she didn’t think it worked very well … not for her anyway. She won’t be finishing the series.

(28:55) Another dystopian series is Sophie’s next choice. There was a movie made out of this one too, as was the case with her last choice...and actually several of our picks in this episode. (Top Tip: there’s a list of books we talk about at the end of every post! How many of the movie adaptations have you seen?)

(32:05) Shadow of the Fox by Julie Kagawa is Anjali’s next choice. We also bring up the TV show Teen Wolf here.

(35:48) Sophie’s last choice is a series that she’s raved a lot about on Rants and Reviews, but she’s probably never going to finish it. She’s not sure if she finished the second in the series … but it’s unlikely she’s going to finish it.

(40:00) The final choice for Anjali is a retelling of Snow White. She felt the first book was very cobbled together, and she’s not going to even attempt to read the next one. We end the episode with a few shout outs, too.
