Twenty Twenty: Summing up 2019 and looking at 2020

Happy New Year! Happy 2020! We realise we’re well into the year by now, but we thought we’d share a bit of a round up of 2019 and also take a look at 2020. We’re going to be sharing our 2020 Goodreads Challenge, five books we vow to read this year, and five books we vow to re-read. Keep listening to find out which stories we’ve added to our lists.

Currently Reading

Each episode of Rants and Reviews we share what we’re currently reading, so you can discover our favourite genes, add some books to your TBR pile, and hear us rave and rage about characters, plot, setting and more.

  Sophie is currently reading:
  • Rated by Melissa Gray
Anjali is currently reading:
  • The Truth About Magic by Atticus
  • SLAY by Brittney Morris

Main feature

(05:00) We kick off the episode by giving you a wrap up of 2019. Both Sophie and Anjali put 50 books on their Goodreads Reading Challenge, and both managed to surpass the number. For 2020, one of us has raised our challenge number, and the other has kept it at 50. Tune in to find out!

(10:40) Over at Blogger's Bookshelf we share five books we vow to read at the beginning of each year. Anjali tells us which books she vowed to read in 2019 and how many she got through. Sophie read the same amount as Anjali from her list, and we give a few tips we’ve discovered as to how to achieve more of our Vow To Read lists for 2020.

(13:00) We also go through our Vow to Re-read lists, which isn’t something we do with Blogger’s Bookshelf, but that we decided to do last year because we kept talking about all the books we ‘really wanted to re-read’ but haven’t yet. We had chosen five books to re-read each, and at this point in the episode we give a roundup of how we did. Once again, Anjali sort of cheated.

(18:00) The part of the episode where we finally share which books we vow to read. Sophie gets excited about the fact that it’s a new year and her book buying ban has been lifted. Anjali warns her not to go mad.

(24:00) Once again, because it went really well last year, we’ve picked five books each to re-read for 2020. Here’s the low down.

Books we vow to re-read in 2020

Anjali
  • Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by JK Rowling
  • The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson
  • A Darker Shade of Magic by VE Schwab
  • Pumpkinheads by Rainbow Rowell and Faith Erin Hicks
  • Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell  (check out our Rainbow Rowell episode!)
Sophie
  • Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
  • Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by JK Rowling
  • Mythos by Stephen Fry
  • The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
  • The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime by Mark Haddon OR
  • Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert
Sophie hasn’t quite decided on her fifth book, but it’s a toss up between the list two in the list, or she’ll figure out what the actual re-read book was that she couldn’t remember when compiling the list.  The episode ends with a quick conversation about fringe. You’re welcome.
