Awesome Albertalli: We Chat About All Things Becky Albertalli

Welcome back to Rants and Reviews! This is episode 40 and we can't quite believe we've made it this far. In this episode, we're chatting about one of the authors we really enjoy: Becky Albertalli. We talk about 5 of her books she's written so far, and a quick look at her novella which came out in 2020.

Currently Reading

Each episode of Rants and Reviews we share what we’re currently reading, so you can discover our favourite genes, add some books to your TBR pile, and hear us rave and rage about characters, plot, setting and more.

Sophie is currently reading:
  • Queen of Shadows by Sarah J Maas

Anjali is currently reading:
  • Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness
  • A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness
  • Warrior of the Wild by Tricia Levenseller
  • Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by JK Rowling (audiobook)

Main feature

(06:55) We kick off the episode by starting with Simon vs the Homo Sapiens. Sophie gives a little synopsis in case you've been living under a rock, and we spend the next few minutes chatting about how much we enjoyed this book, including some of our favourite quotes.

(12:10) There are two other books that sort of overlap with Simon, and while Sophie hasn't read either of them, Anjali has, and so gives us a rundown of Leah on the Offbeat

(15:17) The Upside of Unrequited sits in the Creekwood series between Simon and Leah. Anjali tries to give a synopsis but doesn't do a very good job. Sorry. Tune in to find out what Anjali thought of this one (Sophie hasn't read it).

(18:30) We discover there's a novella which neither of us has read, and take a quick look on Google to figure out what it's about. You can check out the book here on Goodreads

(19:00) Stepping away from the Creekwood series, and talk about one of our favourite books by Albertalli, which she co-wrote with Adam Silvera: What If It's Us. Sophie gives us a synopsis and tells us why she loves the story.
"I'm often in the post office" - Anjali
(22:20) Our final book to cover is Yes No Maybe So by Becky Albertalli and Aisha Saeed. Sophie tells us what the book is about, and we have a chat about how co-writing changes the vibes of the book a little bit. Sophie comments that she did a review of this book in 30 seconds in our episode, Rapid Reviews

We get a little distracted at the end by researching Adam Silvera books. Sorry about that.
